About the Songkran Outfits at the Event

I received a DM asking about the traditional Thai outfits worn by the artists at the recent Songkran event — specifically, what type of Thai dress they were wearing.

Let me answer here so others can read as well:

They were wearing Songkran Goddess costumes

This is because the artists were invited to represent the Songkran Goddess for that particular event.

Who is the Songkran Goddess?

The Songkran Goddess is one of the seven daughters of Thao Kabinlaphrom (ท้าวกบิลพรหม), a celestial Brahma who resides in the third level of the Brahma realm. He is believed to oversee and protect all humans and living beings.

Each daughter represents one day of the week, making up the seven goddesses of Songkran. They appear annually during Maha Songkran Day and are seen as celestial goddesses in the heavens.

Each goddess has her own symbolic weapons, attire, and animal mount.

Which goddess were the artists portraying?

In this event, LeenaMew and Englot were dressed as:

  • Songkran Goddess Tungsa Thewi (ทุงสะเทวี)
  • She is the goddess associated with Sunday
  • She wears a pahurat garment and a pomegranate flower behind her ear
  • Her jewelry is adorned with ruby (Padmarat gemstone)
  • Her food offering is figs (Uttumporn fruit)
  • She holds a chakra (discus) in her right hand and a conch in her left
  • She rides on the back of a Garuda
