Faye and Atom’s Exclusive Interview with Retro Magazine

Faye and Atom: Hello everyone!

Faye: I’m Lily.

Atom: I’m Atom.

Q: “Broken Love” has officially premiered. This time, Faye takes on the dual roles of lead actress and producer, while Atom partners with her for the first time. Now that the series has finally met its audience, looking back from the tense promotional period before the premiere until today, what is the one moment that left the deepest impression on each of you, the moment when you felt, “After all the waiting, we’ve finally arrived here”?

Faye: The moment that really made me feel, “We’ve finally made it,” was the day the first episode aired.

Atom: Awwww…

Faye: Am I stealing your answer?

Atom: You are stealing my answer.

Faye: Because meeting for the first time was already memorable, but if we’re talking about the moment that truly felt like, “We’ve arrived,” it would definitely be the First EP. It brought together so much happiness and so many meaningful memories all in one day.

Atom: Besides the First EP, for me it was the very first day we went on set. It was the beginning of our journey to make this series and bring this project to life. I felt incredibly excited and happy.

Q: After the official poster and trailer were released, many people commented on the series’ “aesthetics of brokenness” and the emotional depth it conveys. As the actors portraying these characters, what do you think is the core emotional thread between them that makes their relationship so moving and compelling?

Faye: You answer first.

Atom: You mean the connection between Arisa and Lalin? For Lalin, I think it’s love. Lalin fell in love with Arisa the moment she opened that bathroom door. She wanted to be with someone who made her feel comfortable and safe. Lalin hadn’t received much love in her life, and Arisa filled that void. So I think love is what connects the two characters.

Faye: I think it’s the story itself, the bond they build, and the experiences they share. Their growing closeness and emotional connection are what bring them together. They start as two strangers who aren’t close at all, but over time they gradually become deeply connected.

Q: Producer Pinpin has praised Atom for her strong stage presence and expressive performance as a singer. Faye also demonstrated a remarkable sense of style and fashion during Milan Fashion Week. When portraying a character, do you think there are any common threads between expression through music, expression through fashion, and expression through acting?

Faye: A connection? For me, fashion and music have always gone hand in hand.

Atom: It’s art.

Faye: Exactly. Art expressed through music and art expressed through fashion naturally belong together.

Atom: They’re both forms of beauty that complement each other.

Q: There’s a very popular comment online describing the two of you as having “bubble tea chemistry”, fans say that when Atom is alone, she seems like a calm and quiet milk tea, but whenever she’s with Faye, it’s like the tapioca pearls suddenly come alive and burst with energy. Have you noticed this change yourselves? And who was the first to discover that the other person had this kind of “hidden feature” personality?

Faye: I think the fans probably noticed it before we did. We feel very comfortable around each other. We talk all the time. We’re always texting.

(pretends to use a phone)

Normally I don’t like chatting on LINE, but I chat with Atom on LINE.

Atom: If you hadn’t told me you dislike chatting on LINE, I would never have believed it.

Faye: I normally don’t like using LINE.

Atom: You’d never know.

Faye: Usually I prefer calling people. But with Atom, if she might be busy, I’ll leave her a text instead. We talk that way all the time. It feels comfortable because we can talk about anything.

Q: Now that the series has started airing, viewers have all kinds of theories and predictions about the relationship between Arisa and Lalin, as well as where the story is heading. Have either of you secretly checked out the audience’s comments? Was there any particular comment that made you laugh or that you just couldn’t resist screenshotting and sending to each other?

Atom: She sends me things all the time. Usually memes, like edits where my face appears in cartoons. They’re really cute.

Faye: Yes, exactly.

Atom: She sends me everything.

Q: The “pinching cheeks” interaction between the two of you has become incredibly popular, starting from your live streams and continuing into fan events. How did this interaction first begin? It has now become one of your signature gestures as a pair. If you had to describe the feeling this interaction gives you in just one word, what would it be?

Faye: How did it start? I honestly don’t know. I don’t know why I kept getting pinched.

Atom: I don’t remember either. I was just being myself. Normally when I find someone adorable, I get the urge to pinch. Then I saw her and wanted to pinch her. That’s probably how it started.

(Note: The Thai word “หมั่นเขี้ยว” is difficult to translate directly into English because it describes a very specific feeling. It is the emotion you experience when someone is so adorable that you feel an irresistible urge to tease them, pinch them, hug them, or show physical affection as a way of expressing your fondness.)

Faye: Yeah.

Atom: I really don’t remember.

Faye: No idea what the reason was. Maybe itchy hands.

Atom: More like she was too cute not to pinch. That’s all.

Q: And how do you react when she pinches you?

Faye: I say, “Ouch!” What else am I supposed to say? She pinches for real. If someone hurts you, what should they say? Come on… what word?

(Faye tries to guide Atom toward saying “sorry.”)

Explanation about the word “kor-tode”(sorry) https://x.com/juth/status/2033965281509531758?s=20

Atom: Ask… for your hand? Ask… for your heart?

Faye: That word is apparently very difficult to say.

Q: Fans have loved discovering the little behind-the-scenes interactions between you two, such as Faye cutting Atom’s hair and Atom feeding Faye chocolate. Besides these moments, during filming or the promotion period, was there any other memorable story or small incident that happened off-camera that you haven’t shared with everyone yet?

Faye: Do you remember what I gave you on Valentine’s Day?

Atom: Flowers.

Faye: And what else?

Atom: Hair clips.

Faye: And what else?

Atom: What else?

Faye: (laughing) How could you forget? That was the very first thing I bought. I didn’t give you just one gift on Valentine’s Day.

Atom: You gave me a lot of things… PongNeng and TuengNued?

Faye: Not only PongNeng and TuengNued.

Faye: Well, those too…

Atom: Hair clips, ribbons, flowers… Polaroid photos…

(They whisper to each other.)

Faye: It was the ribbon.

Atom: But I already said ribbon.

Faye: Not at first! It was a tulip-pattern ribbon. Everyone should go look it up. That was one of the Valentine’s gifts. And the flower-shaped hair clips were custom-made… no, not custom-made… How many did I give you?

Atom: Two. One small and one large.

Faye: So she could choose the small one for some days, or the larger one when she wanted to tie up her hair. That memory stands out to me. Valentine’s Day was approaching, and I wanted to give her some small gifts. It was really sweet.

Atom: For me, my favorite moment was something P’Faye did for me. It wasn’t about gifts; it was about comfort. There was one day when I was extremely stressed, like my head was about to explode. Then she came over, held my cheeks like this… (demonstrates the gesture) …and said, “You don’t need to worry about anything.” That made me feel warm and safe. It helped me open up to her more. I’m really happy to have her beside me through all of my work.

Faye: That’s the first time I’ve heard that.

Atom: Maybe I shouldn’t have said it. (laughs)

Q: This series is the first production released after Faye established her own company, and many people see it as a major breakthrough in her career. Since Atom and Faye worked closely together, did you notice any differences in Faye when she switched between her roles as producer and actress? And from the other perspective, Faye, during the filming process, was there any moment when Atom made you think, “Wow, she’s even more impressive than I imagined”?

Faye: What’s different? The responsibility is much greater. I’m no longer just an actress who arrives on set, does the work, and goes home. I feel responsible for everything involved in the production. Fortunately, I had an amazing team. The Fabel team, the production team, the Moongdoo team- everyone helped so much. Sometimes P’Book and P’Prae wouldn’t sleep at all. At one or two in the morning, they were still sending work back and forth.

Seeing the final result made all the exhaustion worth it. Reading both criticism and praise, learning from it, improving from it, and then seeing positive feedback- that’s already enough satisfaction for me.

As for what exceeded my expectations, this was Atom’s first acting project.

While she was filming, I was standing at the monitor with the director, producer, and the rest of the crew. Especially the directors; they kept saying that if this was truly her first series, she was doing exceptionally well. Better than anyone expected. She’s a very quick learner.

Hearing those comments made me feel proud of her. She’s really talented, and that’s something that left a strong impression on me.

Part 2

Faye acts something out.

Atom: Lotus flower.

Faye: (laughs)

Atom: Isn’t it?

Faye: What flower does this look like?

Atom: A lotus.

Faye: Then what’s this flower?

Atom: A tulip.

Atom: It looks like a lotus bud.

Faye acts something out.

Atom: Cat.

Faye acts something out.

Atom: Sun-kissed cheeks! (แก้มฮีท – A makeup trend that creates a sunburnt blush look.)

Faye: Good job!

Faye acts something out.

Atom: The Seme has arrived!

Faye: Have we got them all yet?

Faye acts something out.

Atom: Driving a car. Isn’t that too easy?

Atom acts something out.

Faye: Keep fighting!

Faye: Taking a photo?

Atom: That’s literally the name of the pose.

Faye: Gen Z?

Atom: No.

Atom: Are we ever going to finish this today?

Faye: What is it?

Atom: Three syllables.

Faye: Y2K!

Atom: I thought I’d never make it home.

Atom acts something out.

Faye: Dog ears.

Atom acts something out.

Faye: Rain?

Atom: Close.

Faye: Magic?

Atom: We’ve already joked about this before.

Faye: Bright?

Atom: No, no. It’s in the sky.

Faye: The sky? A cloud?

Faye: An angel?

Atom: The thing you’re not supposed to point at.

Faye: A rainbow! I’m exhausted.

(In Thailand, some people tell children not to point at rainbows because their fingers will “fall off.” In reality, it was likely a way to stop children from staring at the bright sky and sun for too long.)

Atom acts something out.

Faye: Duck… chicken?

Atom: Good thing you didn’t say “Porp.” (A “Porp” is a type of Thai ghost, often depicted making a similar hand gesture.)

Atom acts something out.

Faye: What is that?

Faye: A dog? No, we’ve already done dog.

Atom: It’s you.

Faye: Fierce?

Atom acts again.

Faye: Sunny?

Faye: What is it?

Faye: Just do a new pose. Skip it, skip it.

Atom: Let me reveal the answer first… Tiger.

Faye: Hey! That’s nothing like me!

Atom acts something out.

Faye: Does it have wings? A bird? A duck?

Faye: A bird!

Atom: Very good!

Q: Atom’s MBTI is ENFP, often described as a “happy puppy.” Faye is also exceptionally outstanding in many areas, and both of you are incredibly strong individuals. What is one personality trait or quality of the other person that you have especially admired or appreciated recently?

Atom: I really admire P’Faye when it comes to work. Honestly, among everyone I’ve met in my life, P’Faye is the most capable person I’ve ever seen. I wish I could take some of her skills and abilities in so many different areas and apply them to myself.

Faye: Why? Everyone works. What’s different? Atom: Because you’re hardworking and incredibly good at what you do.

Faye: You mean because I work every day?

Atom: Yes. You’re working all the time. You handle so many responsibilities, and you do every role well. I’d love to have that ability. Can I borrow it?

Faye: Of course, of course.

(Atom laughs.)

Q: During the filming, was there any scene that received an unexpectedly strong reaction from fans, compared to what you anticipated while shooting it?

Faye: There’s a scene where Atom was really just being herself, so much like Atom. Whether it was the way she complained, her tone of voice, or the phrases she likes to use. I even told Nong, “That’s so Atom.” There was a lot of improvisation while filming too, like the kitchen scene where you secretly made the cake.

Atom: I was thinking of that scene too because I’ve seen so much feedback about it. We were really cute in that scene.

Faye: “I am hungry”. (laughs)

Atom: “I’m hungry. Once I eat, let’s go.”

Faye: It was supposed to be a somewhat emotional scene too, and suddenly she goes, “I’m hungry. Am I not allowed to be hungry?”

Atom: I lost to the voice in my head.

Faye: It was so funny. That’s when I realized that scene turned out really cute.

Q: The series has inspired a great deal of fan content, from memes to fan edits. Is there any fan creation or message that particularly touched you or left a lasting impression on you?

Faye: There are so many. Fans already know that this series was made mainly for them. But one comment made me cry the moment I read it. No one knew because I was embarrassed to say it. The comment was: “She’s back.”

“She’s back in a series. She’s back on screen.”

At that moment, I realized that it wasn’t only me who had been waiting for this. The fans had been waiting too.

Acting is a profession that I truly love. And knowing that there were people waiting to watch my performances again… it moved me deeply.

It was such a small sentence, but I cried that day. I felt so touched, so grateful… I am back.

Atom: Mm. I saw that too.

Faye: Really?

Atom: Yes. I was happy for P’Faye because she puts so much effort into everything she does.

As for me, I read every message. Whether it’s cards, gifts, or letters, I feel so happy and warm knowing that people care enough to do all of that for me.

Q: During filming, was there ever a time when one of you felt like giving up or was struggling, but the other person’s support and perseverance helped you push through? Could you tell us about that moment?

Atom: The eyebrow injury.

Faye: Oh, right. Near the end of filming. That was a scene where I cried all day.

Atom: And you had action scenes too.

Faye: I don’t really like action scenes. I’m not used to them, and I don’t think I’m particularly good at them. But after trying them, I found them fun.

The difficult part is that you have to control your emotions while doing action scenes. You have to fight and act emotionally at the same time. It doubles the exhaustion.

Whenever we’d see each other, we’d just say: “Just a little more.”

Atom: Just a little more.

Faye: Just a little more. But when we saw the results, we knew we could keep going.

Atom: When I saw you doing all those action scenes, I didn’t even dare complain about being tired.

Faye: Nong was sick too. She had a cold, but she still had to shoot scenes under the hot sun. The crew kept checking if she was okay. Yet she kept running around the entire time. I remember thinking, “Are you really sick?” She was amazing.

Q: If you had to choose one word to describe your feelings during the filming period, and another word to describe your feelings now that the series has been released, what would they be?

Faye: One word? How can one word be enough? (laughs)

Faye: “Tiiiiired!” (claps)

Atom: Don’t lose to the voice in your head.

Faye: Oh yes, that’s the voice during filming: “I’m so tired…” But after the series aired? “Not tired anymore.” Same answer, right?

Atom: Not tired anymore. Just happy.

Q: Imagine you could send a gift back in time to the character you portrayed in the series. What would you give them? Would it be a message, a piece of advice, or a physical gift?

Faye: For Arisa, I’d give her a cold towel.

Atom: Because she gets headaches?

Faye: Because every place Arisa goes is so hot. Maybe a cold towel would help.

Atom: How about an air conditioner? Or a fan?

Faye: What about you? What would you give?

Atom: I’d probably book her a massage package because she’s stressed all the time and deserves to relax. Can I buy her cookies too?

Faye: Hey! No!

Atom: Cookies! I want her to eat a lot.

Faye: Cookies aren’t a meal. That’s dessert!

Atom: I just want her to rest and eat more.

Atom: For Lalin? Eye drops.

Faye: For dry eyes? Faye: I’d buy a sign that says “Highly Reactive Object” (Wat-tu-Ween-Wai) and hang it in front of her room.

You can read about the meaning of “Wat-tu-Ween-Wai” here: https://x.com/juth/status/2049558012071969094?s=20

Atom: Get triggered way too easily.

Faye: Not just Lalin. Atom too. That came straight from real life.

Atom: How do you even come up with these things?

Q: Looking back from the start of filming to where you are now, what has been your biggest personal growth? If you could go back and give your first-day-on-set self one piece of advice, what would you say?

Faye: I would thank myself for being brave enough to do it, brave enough to think differently, and brave enough to choose happiness together with the fans. That’s why this series came to life.

Atom: If I could go back to the first day, I would simply tell myself, “Thank you.” I’m so happy that I chose this path. I’m so happy to be here with P’Faye. Even if I could go back in time a million times, I would still choose to be here with Phi. I want to keep doing the work I love. Looking back now, I’m proud of myself from Day One. I’ve grown so much, and I’m truly happy with who I’ve become.

Q: Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say to all the fans who have supported you throughout this journey?

Faye: Thank you to all of our fans. Thank you for every bit of support, every word of encouragement, and even every piece of constructive criticism. Thank you for staying beside us. Thank you for never leaving. Most importantly, thank you for continuing to support and appreciate our work. Let’s stay together like this for a long time. We’ve never truly been alone because we have each other.

Atom: Thank you for loving me so wholeheartedly. Thank you for giving me opportunities to try new things and for appreciating what I do. I always take every comment and piece of feedback to heart so I can improve myself. I hope I can stay with all of you for a very, very long time.

Faye & Atom: Bye-bye!
