What Does ‘PFK’ Mean? Faye’s Confusion vs. Atom’s Understanding

In fandom culture, one common way fans tease artists is by joking, “Have you broken up yet?” This usually happens when the two artists people ship together don’t interact much on social media. Fans then start teasing like, “Did they break up?”

Now, in Thai, the word “เลิก” (lerk) has multiple meanings. It can mean: – breaking up (in a relationship) – finishing work – ending a job, project, or filming, etc. You’ll hear the pronunciation “lerk” a lot in this clip. So when fans teased Faye by saying “Lerk”, she got confused, but Atom understood.

If you understand that the word “เลิก” (Lerk) has multiple meanings, I’ll use “Lerk” in the dialogue so you can see why Atom understands it and why Faye gets confused.

Let’s look at the conversation:

a fan: Are you “lerk” late today? (laughs)

Faye grabs Atom’s sleeve

Atom: We’re not “lerk” today.

a fan: Oh? Not “lerk” at all?

Atom: Not “lerk” even tomorrow.

a fan: Wait, lerk what exactly?

Faye: Lerk what?

Atom turns to Faye, who looks confused, and says: “Not lerk tomorrow either.”

a fan: Lerk work, or lerk what? Fans laugh Atom smiles and jumps playfully.

a fan: Lerk singlehood.

a fan: Oops.

Faye: What do you mean?

a fan: P’Faye doesn’t understand. Atom, please help.

a fan: Are you two PFK (Por-For-Kor)?

Faye: What?

a fan: Are you PFK?

Faye: PFK…

a fan: Are you?

Atom gestures to explain, and Faye follows.

Faye: KFP….

a fan: P’Faye, answer yes first.

Faye: Yes.

Fans: OHHHHHH

a fan: Even P’Toon said so.

a fan: Don’t lerk!

a fan: P’Faye is so confused now.

Faye: We’re lerk late today.

Atom: Yes, lerk late today.

a fan: Lerk late, but not lerk kan. (meaning ‘Finishing late, but not breaking up’)

Faye: We have a contract signed.

Faye and Atom make a gesture and say: “I love red.”
This comes from “I love red flag,” meaning someone who is attracted to “red flag” personalities.

PFK – Por For Kor

“PFK” (ปฟก) stands for “pen fan kan” (เป็นแฟนกัน), which means “to be a couple / dating.”

It’s a fandom slang used when fans “ship” two people; they’ll say the pair are “PFK”.

When abbreviated, it’s read letter by letter: “Por–For–Kor.”
