Faye Puzzled by “Ma Bo Kor Tok,” Asks Whose Dog “Ma Bo” Belongs To

After doing some research, I can now answer the question: What does “Ma-bo-kor-tok” (หมาโบ้คอตก) mean? First, let’s break it down word by word.

“Ma-bo” (หมาโบ้): In Thai culture, people commonly name their dogs “Bo” (โบ้). There are various assumptions about its origin; some say it’s derived from names like Jumbo, Rambo, or Bobo.

But in general, “Bo” is just a typical, familiar name for a dog.

The word “Bo” here is pronounced with a high tone. It’s different from the common female nickname “Bo,” which typically has a different tone. “Bô” (โบ้) uses the falling tone (mai tho), which is pronounced with a higher pitch.

“Kor-tok” (คอตก): This means “head down” or “droopy,” describing a sad, dejected mood. Putting it together, “Ma-bo-kor-tok” literally means a sad, droopy dog.

หมาโบ้คอตก

In modern fiction, it’s often used to describe a Seme character. These characters usually start off cold, arrogant, or even harsh toward the Uke, acting proud and confident while insisting they don’t like the Uke. But in the end, they give in.

They go from being a “swan” to becoming like a “dog.”

From someone cool and emotionally guarded, they end up surrendering to the Uke. And when the Uke doesn’t love them back or ignores them …

They become “Ma-bo-kor-tok”: dejected, lovesick, and defeated.

So the term “Bo energy” (อาการโบ้) has come to describe this kind of character as well, Someone who may appear confident, proud, and unshakable at first, but ultimately ends up losing their heart to the Uke.

So if people on set tease that Faye is going to be a “ma-bo-kor-tok,” it might mean… hehe, I’ll let everyone interpret it themselves.
